[00:03:26] Zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen lesen Sie die Packungsbeilage und fragen Sie Ihre Ärztin, Ihren Arzt oder in Ihre Apotheke. It is so hard in this day and age to be still. Do you ever find yourself waiting somewhere, in line at the grocery store, waiting for your friend to meet you at a restaurant, and you pick up your phone to pass the time? I know I do.
[00:03:55] Pretty much everyone I know does, in fact. It's so very tempting to be continuously stimulated, to be busy and productive every moment, or just to be simply entertained. Being truly present and quiet can be uncomfortable. Or as my three-year-old says, BORING! Already, at just three years old, he feels the need to be constantly entertained.
[00:04:21] And I can't blame him, because I can easily fall into that cycle too. I jokingly said to a friend on New Year's Eve, My New Year's resolution is to take more naps. And then, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it wasn't a joke. While nearly every year prior to this one, I've listed somewhat ambitious goals for myself, I'm finding my outlook to be quite different this year.
[00:04:46] I'm finding the deep value in slowing down, the luxury of slow mornings. I've always prioritized rest, but now I'm truly seeing how essential it is for optimal health. If you want to put peace at the top of your priority list, tonight's meditation is for you.
[00:05:18] The winter is a time for hibernation. Nature is almost dormant in the snow and ice. It's a time of storage and preservation. At the start of a new calendar year, it's understandable that we should feel called to reset and reframe our goals and habits. There's a collective new beginning that's occurring, and much to be gained from tapping into that current. Still, for many people,
[00:05:46] this manifests as harsh discipline and austerity, whipping the body into vigorous exercise and restrictive diets. Winter doesn't support that sort of effort. The aggressive energy of spring, in which sprouts burst forward and germinate and buds begin to blossom, is a much more supportive time for exertion and growth. But that collective urge to resets,
[00:06:14] which occurs each year at the beginning of January, might be an opportunity to recalibrate our brain's reward system, so that, as the warmer, longer days of spring encourage us to pursue our goals with that much more vitality, we can meet the season with clarity and enthusiasm. Adapting to the rhythms of nature helps us live more efficiently, increasing productivity and creativity.
[00:06:44] Rest in the quiet seasons gives us the vitality to be creative and productive when the time is right. Modern life creates artificial days and nights, as well as artificial seasons. We can control our indoor climate so that it's 70 degrees year-round. We are more connected than ever, but we have lost our connection to the cycles of the earth and the sun.
[00:07:11] Our ancestors' connection to nature has been replaced by the connectivity we have to our devices. Notifications ping, pulling our attention in countless directions. New opportunities for engagement are offered to us at every turn. While this abundance of options can be exciting, it comes with a cost. Every time you receive a notification, scroll through a feed,
[00:07:40] or experience something new and unexpected, your brain releases a small amount of dopamine, a chemical that is closely associated with pleasure and reward. This is why you might feel a tiny surge of excitement when you see a like on your post, hear the ding of a new message, or find an engaging video. But this burst of dopamine is fleeting,
[00:08:09] leaving you craving the next hit. Over time, this cycle can create a pattern of seeking constant stimulation, making it difficult to focus, stay present, or find contentment in quieter moments. Tonight's meditation will help you embrace the stillness and the quiet of winter, so that you may let go of overstimulation,
[00:08:38] that you may find yourself more fully immersed in presence, mindfulness, and the hushed vibrations of winter that support you as you create more space for peace and calm in your life. In this quiet space, there is an invitation to reflect on the constant inputs that fill our modern lives. Settle into a cozy and relaxed position in your bed.
[00:09:07] Try to eliminate any possible distractions. It may take some time to find just the right amount of support from your pillow and warmth from your covers, so allow yourself plenty of time to make any necessary adjustments.
[00:09:23] When you've found yourself relatively at ease and ready to relax, take a slow, mindful breath in through your nose, feeling your whole body respond to the expansion of the inhale.
[00:09:53] Then, after noticing a brief pause at the top of the breath, open your mouth and release the exhale in a whoosh. As tension melts away, reflect on the year that has passed, what is now being left behind. At the height of winter,
[00:10:21] the sun appears to stand still in the sky. It's as though nature is inviting us to pause, look around. When the sun's path reverses direction, the cycle is going to continue as the days begin to lengthen and warm. But for a brief moment,
[00:10:47] there is an opportunity for calm perspective on our days. Come back to the gentle rhythm of your breath. Notice the natural pauses at the top of the inhale and the bottom of the exhale. These moments of stillness offer us an opportunity
[00:11:16] to create inner silence. The whole cycle of the breath becomes that much more calm and gentle.
[00:12:32] It's in these quiet spaces that we recalibrate. We remind ourselves that we don't have to chase every shiny object or respond to every demand for our attention. Instead, we can embrace stillness, find joy in simplicity,
[00:13:01] and reclaim our ability to focus on what truly matters. This is where balance begins.
[00:15:40] Imagine releasing the need to check, to seek, to consume. Let your mind grow quiet, like a snowfall blanketing the ground. With each breath, feel yourself recalibrating, resetting your inner balance,
[00:16:06] clearing space for calm and clarity. This practice of simplifying is like winter itself, a pause, a recalibration. By stepping back from endless stimulation, you allow your brain, your heart,
[00:16:35] and your spirit, to find their natural rhythm again. There's a cleansing that occurs in the mind when we do this. The brain's sensitivity to dopamine is improved, allowing you to derive more satisfaction from simple pleasures, like a walk in nature or a meaningful conversation,
[00:17:04] rather than chasing endless novelty. Imagine yourself surrounded by the stillness of winter. The trees stand bare. The earth lies quiet. The air feels crisp and clear. nature,
[00:17:33] in this season, isn't rushing. It's not striving or producing. It's a time to slow down, to simplify, and to rest. Notice how it feels to do less, to simply be,
[00:18:05] to shift your focus inward, where the true source of your well-being resides. Breathe in, breathe out.
[00:19:40] As you exhale, imagine clearing away clutter, not just physical clutter, but the clutter of overstimulation, of doing too much. Picture yourself choosing only what nourishes you, what feels simple, mindful, and real.
[00:20:26] Breathe in,
[00:21:36] in this moment of stillness. Remind yourself, you don't need to chase every impulse. You don't need to fill every quiet moment. There is power.
[00:23:22] As you rest here, aligning yourself with winter's symbolic stillness, you may notice a subtle shift within you. Without the noise, without the distractions, your inner wisdom begins to surface, like the quiet stirrings of roots, beneath the frozen soil. This is the space
[00:23:52] where renewal, regeneration, and rebirth begins. Take a moment to honor this act of slowing down, this act of recalibration. By simplifying, you're not depriving yourself. You're making space.
[00:24:22] Space for mindfulness. Space for balance. Space to reconnect with what truly matters. You don't need to chase every impulse. You don't need to fill every quiet moment. There is power in simplicity.
[00:24:56] Breathe out.
[00:26:16] Feel your body soften, your mind quiet, your spirit calm. In this season of rest, you're giving yourself the gift of renewal. You're allowing your energy to align with the rhythms of nature, trusting that rest and simplicity
[00:26:45] will prepare you for the vitality of spring. Notice the weight of your body sinking into the mattress. Feel how the bed supports you fully, cradling you in safety. Breathe in. Breathe out.
[00:27:17] Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in.
[00:28:31] Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of four. Hold your breath softly for a count of four. Exhale slowly for a count of six. With each exhale, imagine releasing the events of the day.
[00:29:01] Feel the rhythm of your breathing begin to slow and steady. As you continue to breathe, imagine a calm, still lake under a starry sky. See the surface of the water smooth and undisturbed,
[00:29:31] faking the quiet of the night. With every breath, feel your thoughts settle like ripples fading on the water.
[00:31:48] Reflect on the constant inputs in modern life. The notifications, noise, and stimulation. Acknowledge them. Recognize them. Then, let them go. Visualize these distractions dissolving into the stillness
[00:32:17] of the lake, leaving only simplicity and quiet behind. Silently, in your mind, repeat to yourself, I don't need to chase every impulse. I don't need to fill every quiet moment.
[00:32:47] There is power in simplicity.
[00:33:54] As your thoughts quiet, bring your attention to the stillness within you. Notice the space between each breath, the pauses that naturally arise. Allow this inner quiet to expand, enveloping your mind and body in a cocoon
[00:34:23] of space and stillness. If thoughts arise, acknowledge them gently and let them float away like clouds drifting across a night sky.
[00:35:44] Bring to mind the concept of simplicity. Recognize and acknowledge that you are enough in this moment, just as you are. This moment is enough, just as it is. Release the need for a constant stimulation, an artificial state that can
[00:36:14] distract us from the basic enoughness of ourselves and of the world and life itself. There is joy in simplicity. Imagine
[00:37:31] your body becoming heavier with each breath, sinking deeper into the mattress. Visualize yourself merging with the stillness of the night, your body resting and your mind at ease. As your breathing becomes slower and more natural.
[00:38:01] Release any effort to control the meditation. Allow yourself to simply rest, knowing your body and mind are unwinding.
[00:39:38] Once more, silently, to yourself, repeat the affirmations, feelings. I don't need to chase every impulse. I don't need to fill every quiet moment's power in simplicity.
[00:41:04] As you drift gently towards sleep, express deep gratitude for this moment of stillness, for your body, and for the simplicity of the present, train your brain to find satisfaction in stillness rather than constant input. Let this reconnect
[00:41:34] you to the simplicity of the present moment. Fostering clarity,
[00:42:51] stillness embrace you. Feel the peace that comes from simplicity. Let your breath guide you gently into sleep. where your body and mind can truly reset. Sleep. Sleep. Thank you.
