[00:01:00] If your family enjoys the stories here on Sleep Wave, and you're looking for something to listen to during the day, I think you'll love this. It's a podcast called The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian. It's a serialized science fiction story about an eight-year-old and his friends exploring space and solving mysteries, told in 15 to 20 minute episodes that are perfect for car rides or for winding down at the end of the day.
[00:01:27] The podcast is recorded by Jonathan Messenger and his son Griffin in the basement of their home and has a similar warm narrator feel that we have here on Sleep Wave. It's built a whole host of loyal fans and even a shout-out from Time Out magazine, who pointed out how much fun kids have following the cruise adventures, exploring new planets, meeting aliens, and helping shape what happens next.
[00:01:53] It's one of those stories kids can get completely drawn into, and one I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to with them. So, if you're looking for a story podcast to share with your family, look for The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian on Apple Podcasts or head to gzmshows.com for more info. And be sure to tell them Sleep Wave sent you. And now, off to Cambodia we go.
[00:02:30] You're there in your mind now, in the low hum of the afternoon. You've spent hours walking the temple grounds, moving slowly beneath stone towers and shaded galleries, pausing often to rest and to take in the quiet weight of the place around you. Now, as afternoon eases toward evening, the heat begins to soften.
[00:02:58] The air feels lighter. The light turns warmer, lower in the sky. So, when you're ready, find a comfortable position, letting your body settle fully into your bed. Notice how the surface beneath you supports your weight. How your head is cradled, your limbs allowed to rest without effort.
[00:03:27] There is nowhere else you need to be. Nothing else you need to do. The walking is done for today. This time is yours. Take a slow breath in through your nose. And let it ease gently out through your mouth. Feel your shoulders soften.
[00:03:55] Your jaw loosen. Your arms are resting. Heavy and warm. Whatever the day has carried with it. Thoughts, responsibilities, unfinished moments. You can set them down now. You've done enough for today.
[00:04:24] You are safe here. Supported. Free to rest. As your breath becomes slower and smoother, Your mind begins to quiet. Each inhale welcomes calm. Each exhale releases what you no longer need.
[00:04:51] And now, as your body rests in this ease, You begin to picture the late afternoon light at Angkor Wat. The long stone causeway you've already walked earlier in the day. You find yourself moving along it again, slowly, as the heat continues to fade.
[00:05:18] The path feels steady beneath your feet. Wide. Grounded. Familiar. Guiding you forward without effort. The wind is low now, softening the air. Warmth still lingers in the stone. But the heat of the day has eased.
[00:05:48] Replaced by a quieter calm. The towers of the temple lift into the sky like stone lotuses. Their edges catching the last of the light. You slow for a moment. Simply to pause. To notice your breath.
[00:06:16] To let the day continue loosening its hold. Around you. The jungle begins to change its tone. Bird song thins and fades. Cicadas take over. Their rhythm steady and layered. Settling into the air. To either side of the causeway.
[00:06:45] Long pools of water lie almost still. You notice the reflection of the sky on the surface. Pale gold. Fading blue. The slow drift of cloud. The reflections blur gently as you move. As though the temple exists both above and below you.
[00:07:15] Your footsteps sound muted against the worn stone. Each step. As if time has slowed to match your pace. You pass beneath a familiar stone archway. Its shadow cooling the air around you. Inside.
[00:07:43] The space opens gradually. Corridors lead into courtyards. Lights and shade weave quietly together. Stone walls rise on either side. Carved with figures and patterns.
[00:08:12] Worn smooth by centuries of heat and rain. You don't stop to study them. You let them be part of the space around you. The stone beneath your fingers feels warm still. Holding traces of the sun.
[00:08:38] A light breeze moves through the galleries. Brushing your skin. Carrying the scent of damp stone. Moss. And distant water. You move without any particular plan. Sometimes walking. Sometimes stopping.
[00:09:08] In one courtyard, light settles softly across the ground. In another, shade gathers. Cool and calm. You notice how the sound shifts as you move. Open spaces filled with the low hum of the jungle.
[00:09:33] Covered walkways holding a deeper quiet. Somewhere nearby, a single bell sounds. You find yourself beneath the central towers now. Their presence steady and reassuring.
[00:10:00] They rise above you without urgency. Unchanged by time or movement. As evening deepens, the sky begins to turn, cold softening into amber, amber into lavender,
[00:10:31] lavender into indigo. Low lights begin to glow along the paths and nearby walkways, subtle and warm, guiding without glare. Their reflections move faintly across the stone
[00:10:55] as you pass. It feels less defined here. Minutes stretch. Moments linger. You come to rest on a
[00:11:16] quiet stone edge overlooking water. The surface below reflects the darkening sky. Broken only by faint ripples and points of light, you sit comfortably, letting your weight sink down.
[00:11:39] The stone beneath you is warm, solid, dependable. Your shoulders soften. Your breath slow. Above, the first sight of the moon appears as the sun slips almost fully from the sky.
[00:12:05] The jungle settles into its lazy evening rhythm. Cicadas. Distant birds. The soft movement of
[00:12:23] leaves. The temple stands quietly around you. Solid. Familiar. Unmoving. You breathe slowly now.
[00:12:41] In and out. Each breath feels deeper than the last. Each exhale releases a little more weight.
[00:13:00] You've been here for a while. Long enough for the sun to dip. Long enough for voices to fade in the distance.
[00:13:24] Nothing needs to happen. Nothing needs to change. You are simply here. Surrounded by stone,
[00:13:45] water, water, and evening air. As the moon settles into the sky, stillness gathers gently around you,
[00:14:05] preparing you for rest. Your breath matches the quiet around you. Unrush. After a while,
[00:14:32] you sense that it's time to move on. The evening has settled fully now. You stand easily,
[00:14:49] and follow the familiar path back through the temple ground. The stone beneath your feet still feels warm,
[00:15:06] guiding you without effort. Low lights mark the wall, reflecting faintly on stone and water as you pass.
[00:15:29] Behind you, the towers remain quiet and still, holding their shape against the indigo sky. Soon, the presence of the temple recedes gently behind you, replaced by the quiet rhythm.
[00:15:58] You're already settled into the backseat of the car. Your body supported. The movement smooth.
[00:16:10] Air drifts through the open window, carrying the scent of damp earth and night-blooming flower. It brushes softly
[00:16:33] across your skin, cooling and comfortable. The motion barely noticeable now. A gentle hum beneath you.
[00:16:57] A soft vibration through the seat. Streetlights and lanterns glow softly as you pass. There are light
[00:17:14] pooling briefly on the road, slipping away again into shadow. Light and dark. You don't need to follow.
[00:17:47] You don't need to stay alert. The road knows the way. With each stretch of darkness between the lights,
[00:18:03] your thoughts loosen a little more. With each quiet turn, your body sinks deeper into the seat.
[00:18:17] The journey back towards the MREAP is calm and uneventful. The city feels slower now. Quieter. As though it, too,
[00:18:38] is winding down for the night. Occasionally, a distant sound drifts past. A voice. A motor. Music carried faintly on the air and fades just as easily.
[00:19:01] Nothing lingers. Nothing asks for your attention. The car continues on. Steady and reliable. Each moment feels much like the last.
[00:19:21] The car continues on. And that sameness is soothing. Time stretches here. Gently, without needing to be measured. Minutes pass without notice. Your breath settles into an easy rhythm.
[00:19:54] In time, with the movement of the roads grow fewer. The streets grow quieter. The air feels a little cooler.
[00:21:16] Before long, the car slows. Turning away from the road and into a more sheltered space. The movement eases. The movement eases. Then quiet. You arrive at the sanctuary of your resort.
[00:21:38] Tucked peacefully away from the fading bustle of the city. As you step out of the car and into the lobby, a gentle breeze from the ceiling fan meets you. You slip off your sandals. And the change is immediate.
[00:22:03] Warm leather giving way to cool stone beneath your feet. Amber lighting glows throughout the space.
[00:22:15] Reflecting quietly off smooth stone and polished wood. Natural textures surround you. Linen, sandstone.
[00:22:36] Somewhere nearby, water moves quietly. A pool reflects the night's surface still. A pool reflects the night's surface still. The air carries a faint scent of jasmine and lemon.
[00:23:05] Greenery lines the path. Leaves catching the light. Shadows shifting gently as you pass. Nearby, staff move quietly through the space. Their presence calm.
[00:23:27] Hum. And unhurried. From a distance, you hear the soft hum of the poolside restaurant. And the quiet arrival of a tuk-tuk back at reception. Sounds that fade as you move further along the path. You pass a large mirror set into an ornate frame.
[00:23:53] A small Buddha resting beneath it. The space feels calm and balanced. Everything in its place. You continue on until you reach your villa. Turn the key. And step inside.
[00:24:14] The space opens softly. Smooth stone tiles continue to cool your feet as you enter. Tall glass doors stand open ahead.
[00:24:34] Blurring the boundary between indoors and out. Just beyond them, a plunge pool lies perfectly still. Blurring the sky. Reflecting the stars like dark glass. The lighting inside is warm.
[00:25:02] And most importantly, at the heart of the room, the bed. Crisp white linens are turned down. Pillows arranged neatly. The mattress firm, yet welcoming. Above, a ceiling fan turns slowly.
[00:25:32] Its rotating blades providing a steady hum. Sheer curtains drift softly with the night breeze. Inviting in the quiet sounds of seum-reef after dark. Distant insects. The hush of leaves.
[00:26:07] To one side, the bathroom blends seamlessly into the space. Its smooth stone surfaces glowing under the lamp light. A deep soaking tub. A deep soaking tub rests nearby. And a rainfall shower stands ready.
[00:26:33] Outside, the pool remains calm and private. Lantern light flickers across the water's surface, barely moving. Nothing here asks for your attention.
[00:26:51] Everything encourages you to slow. When you lie down. The room seems to exhale with you. The fan turns.
[00:27:12] The water outside stays still. The night wasps gently around the villa. And here, between ancient temples and a sleeping city. You are safe, supported, and free to rest.
[00:27:44] You lie down, feeling the bed welcome you. As you settle deeper into the mattress, you begin a gentle body scan. Bringing your awareness to the top of your head.
[00:28:06] Imagine a soft silvery moonlight resting there. Your forehead smooths. Your eyes soften. Your cheeks roll out. Your jaw loosen.
[00:28:39] This calm flows down your neck, across your shoulder, releasing their weights into the back. Your arms grow heavy and warm. Your hands rest easily.
[00:29:22] Every finger unwound. Your awareness moves to your chest. You notice the gentle rise and fall.
[00:29:45] All of your breath. All of your breath, like twilight itself. Arriving and fading. Your belly soften. Your back release.
[00:30:11] releases. Calm flows down your spine, through your hips, and into your legs. Your thighs
[00:30:32] grow heavy, your knees soft, your calves release. Your feet relax completely, all the way to
[00:30:54] your toe. Your whole body now rests like the ancient stones beneath the stars. Still, grounded,
[00:31:07] deeply at peace. You are safe here by the quiet of the night, surrounded by centuries of calm.
[00:31:28] The breeze flows softly. The temple stands watch. The water reflects the sky.
[00:31:45] And as your breath slows even further, you drift deeper beyond thought. Beyond.
[00:32:21] You'll awaken only peaceful, restored, and whole. And for now.
