[00:00:27] I once heard someone say, I can't even remember my life before I had kids. While I certainly remember it, it is true that my pre-child life feels like a foreign experience in many ways from my current experience. I was very intimidated by parenthood, and often still am, and yet I am immensely grateful for this opportunity to be this boy's mama.

[00:00:54] It has required me to grow and transform, to rise to the occasion. It requires me to do more and to be more than I thought I was able. As I've been reflecting over the past year, I've been thinking a lot about his early days. Newborns often have a daily cry-fest with no explanation aptly called the witching hour.

[00:01:18] I remember one night during witching hour, I was simply beside myself with what to do to calm him. He was fed, burped, his diaper had been changed, and I was trying to get him to sleep. At my wit's end, I just ended up lying down on the bed beside him and saying quietly, I don't know what to do to help you right now, but I'll just be here with you while you go through it. I think that's what we all need sometimes.

[00:01:49] Life gives us these opportunities to transform. There are times when life is calling you to be more than you think you can be, and sometimes you just want someone else to be there while you feel all you need to feel. While having someone else be a witness for us is lovely, we can also do this for ourselves. Being a witness for yourself, watching how you react, tuning in to what you need,

[00:02:18] especially in times of growth and transformation, can be so healing and steadying. Meditation helps to give us the ability to do that, to witness yourself, to know there is a part of you that remains capable and steady no matter what the world may bring. Perhaps parenthood is asking you to rise to the occasion too, or maybe it's something totally different.

[00:02:45] Work, a relationship, your health, getting a handle on your sleep. Whatever it is, tonight's meditation will help you develop the ability to honor and appreciate yourself as you drift off to sleep so that you can approach tomorrow with fresh, capable, loving eyes.

[00:03:12] If your family enjoys the stories here on Sleepwave, and you're looking for something to listen to during the day, I think you'll love this. It's a podcast called The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian. It's a serialized science fiction story about an 8-year-old and his friends exploring space and solving mysteries, told in 15- to 20-minute episodes that are perfect for car rides or for winding down at the end of the day.

[00:03:39] The podcast is recorded by Jonathan Messenger and his son Griffin in the basement of their home and has a similar warm narrator feel that we have here on Sleepwave. It's built a whole host of loyal fans and even a shout-out from Time Out magazine who pointed out how much fun kids have following the cruise adventures, exploring new planets, meeting aliens, and helping shape what happens next. It's one of those stories kids can get completely drawn into,

[00:04:09] and one I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to with them. So, if you're looking for a story podcast to share with your family, look for The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian on Apple Podcasts, or head to gzmshows.com for more info. And be sure to tell them Sleep Wave sent you.
